First Step Georgia offers training courses to enhance and develop the knowledge and skills of those who work or live with children with special needs.  

Our training is based on over 12 years of hands-on knowledge and experience - as well as from the training we received both here in Georgia and abroad.  

Our courses are a culmination of local and international knowledge and best practices.

Principles of care and service for children with disabilities 

After completing the module, trainees will be able to:

·         Deliver adequate and quality service for disabled people;

·         Develop adequate communication forms;

·         Create a therapeutic and stimulating environment;

·         Identify and fulfill needs.

 

Client-Centered Service

After completing the module, trainees will be able to:

·         Deal and work with disabled people in a manner that is respectful, practical and appropriate; 

·         Develop an individual-centered plan.

 

Preparation of individual educational plan (IEP) and an individual service plan (ISP)

After completing the module, trainees can:

·         Correctly develop and implement individual IEPs and ISPs;

·         Work well in teams;

·         Have further developed a broad range of skills needed for working with disabled people;

·         Be able to correctly assess a person's current situation;

·         Choose functional and educational goals in consideration of the child's capabilities and needs;

·         Develop and plan methods and strategies towards achieving goals.

 

Management of challenging behavior

After completing the module, trainees can:

·         Identify challenging behavior and the causes of it;

·         Develop skills to manage and prevent challenging behavior.

 

First aid and healthy lifestyle

After completing the module, trainees will be able to:

·         Administer adequate first aid before arrival of the doctor;

·         Translate healthy lifestyle into practice based on the theoretical knowledge;

·         Prevent certain diseases by observing hygienic standards.

 

Principles of occupational therapy

After completing the module, the trainees will be able to:

·         Carry and lift disabled people correctly and safely;

·         Prevent bedsores from occurring due to physical disability;

·         Increase the degree of independence of disabled people by using the right techniques;

·         Understand sensory stimulation and how to use it in daily life.

 

The rights of the children and disabled

After completing the module, trainees will be able to:

-       Protect the rights of the child and disabled people, identify and appropriately respond to violations of rights

 

Disabled people and social work

After completing the module, the trainees will be able to:

-        Successfully provide social work for disabled people and their families.
