CHILDREN'S STORIES

Vano's story. In his early years Vano was brought up by his parents. At the age of eight his parents voluntarily put him in an institution. He suffers from a profound mental disability which means that sometimes he behaves agressively. He can not feed himself and he needs constant attention from a caregiver. He cannot speak, but he can easily express what he wants or needs. Currently, Vano is taking an expensive medicine – Neoleptine, which is prescribed to him by a psychiatrist. In order to keep his condition stable Vano needs 100 GEL per month for 8 months. We hope that from the next year, medication will be paid for by the Georgian state. Till the end of this year, we need 700 GEL for his medication.

Mediko's story. Mediko was brought up in an institution from a very early age. She suffers from profound mental disability and needs the constant attention of a caregiver. Mediko takes part in FSG’s functional skills development program. Sometimes she displays aggressive behaviour and so it is difficult for her to integrate socially. Like Vano, Mediko is taking an expensive medicine – Neoleptine, prescribed by a psychiatrist. She needs 100 GEL monthly for 8 months to keep her condition stable. We hope that from the next year, medication will be paid for by the Georgian state. Till the end of this year, we need 700 GEL for Mediko’s medication.

Till the end of 2010, we need 1600 GEL for both children’s expensive medication.
Please, help us to help children!

Margo's story. Margo was born with profound health problems in a family without social security. Due to a lack of funds, her parents took her to a children's orphanage. Margo had cerebral palsy, and for this reason she could not walk and had to sit most of the time. In 2000, First Step Georgia moved her to the Village. Here, Margo went through a full rehabilitation course. After this, she could walk independently, and she became involved in the functional skills development program. She then went to First Step Georgia Day Care Center, where she became actively involved in the learning process.

Margo loves dancing and listening to music. For now, she is back with her biological family to continue living with her parents, sister and brother. However, because of their poverty Margo's parents cannot ensure a proper living for her. They need financial aid to buy hygienic products and food items, the cost of which is 150 GEL per month.

If you would like to help Margo and her family covers her financial expenses, please contact Mariam + 995 32 25 25 19; 23 01 40; Email: fsg@firststepgeorgia.org
